Just so you know what's going on, let's talk Turkey. Turkey is a large country in the Middle East on the Mediterranean Sea. Among others, it shares borders with Syria and Iraq.
Turkey is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United States is among the 28 countries that make up this military alliance. Each is vowed to protect any of the others if they are under outside attack. The U.S. has a large strategic air base in Turkey which it uses to cover the whole Middle East. When push comes to shove, Turkey often threatens to expel our base from it's country. We can't let that happen.
Turkey is currently governed by President Recep Erdogan. Just last week he put down an attempted coup by part of his military. Some think it may have been staged by his followers. In any case he is using it as an excuse to jail thousands of people who oppose him. Erdogan is a Muslim who follows the Sunni Islamic tradition.
(for your reference: Syria is also governed by a Sunni Islamist. The official religion of Iran is Shia Islam. We know that Iraq is mixed between Sunni and Shia - Saddam Hussein was a Sunni. ISIS follows the Wahhabi Sunni doctrine.)
Turkey is currently a constitutional republic like our own country. It would be good if it stayed that way. It currently has no official state religion. It would be good if it stayed that way. We haven't gotten along too well with the Islamic States of the world.
Erdogan was elected to a five year term in 2014. It may be that he doesn't want to go through all that campaigning trouble again. Beware that he doesn't try to turn Turkey into a religious monarchy.
