DROUGHT

This weather we are experiencing in southwestern Ohio is typical of an August drought.  You know it's here because the grass has gone dormant and refuses to grow.  Sadly, the weeds don't get the same message.  The yard is fine - it doesn't need to get cut - but the fringes are scraggly looking.  This is a typical temporary drought for us.

Luckily, it's not a California drought.  It's just our normal.  I can live with it.  When I used to cut my own grass, I looked forward to these periods.  Now . . .  I wish it would rain.

The California situation has been going on for about four years.  They have had droughts there almost every decade for the past century.  Most have lasted two to five years.  It's hard to feel real sorry for or worry about the people with the overall best weather in the country - but we should.  They also produce a good portion of the food the rest of us eat.  If they don't get much rain this Fall, let's hope for heavy snows next Winter.  The only real alternative is to build a water pipeline from the Canadian Rockies or Lake Superior to replenish their reservoirs.
