INTERFAITH WISDOM

Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Gautama Buddha.  He was born in 567 BC in Nepal, lived his life in south Asia and died in India in about 483 BC (exact years unknown).  Buddhism is the 4th largest religion in the world with over 500 million adherents.

Remember, Buddha was not a god in the sense of theistic religions.  He was a teacher.  He simply taught how to live.  The ambition in living is to reach nirvana - the ultimate stage in the life process. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of quotes attributed to Buddha.  I have copied a number of these quotes for your benefit.

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.  When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."

"Peace comes from within; do not seek it without."

"In the end only three things matter:  how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you."

"Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."

"Your trouble is you think you have time."

"On the long journey of human life, Faith is the best of companions."

"There is no path to happiness:  happiness is the path."

"If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down."

"Be kind to all creatures;  this is the true religion."

"Each morning we are born again.  What we do today is what matters most."

"Don't rush anything.  When the time is right, it will happen."

"You will not be punished for your anger.  You will be punished by your anger."
