In the old days (sorry I said that), college football stadiums (spellcheck wouldn't allow stadia) were small and had seating on the sides only. Big games at the end of the season were played in bigger outdoor arenas that had seating all around like a bowl. Voila! Bowl games!
It is difficult to pick Atlanta over New England but the possibility exists. The Falcons have a potent offense. The Patriots are favored by 3 points by the bettors. The bookies expect the game to be high scoring. The 'under/over' bet is 59. Teams usually play the SB close to the vest but these teams will still put up big numbers. Bet the 'over'. Anyway, the important things are the chip dip and the commercials.
Last Thursday, the Bearcats dominated in the 2nd half of the Crosstown Shootout despite Trevon Bluiett going off. It was a coming out party for UC's Jarron Cumberland. Loved it.
Xavier had even worse news on Sunday when starting point guard sophomore Edmond Sumner injured his knee driving to the basket against St. Johns in New York. He's done for the season. Myles Davis should have stuck with the team a little longer. Quentin Goodin will try to fill Sumner's void. Sumner had eyes on the NBA after this season. Time will tell.
Luke Fickell keeps signing players for UC's football programs and adding coaches. I feel an excitement growing.
Adam Jones keeps giving the Bengals more publicity than they want. I think they will have to make a decision, even if it isn't announced to the public, about him before the upcoming draft in late April.
Here is one of the great joys of sports - seeing your name on the field or court.
Who said I didn't like girls basketball?
