WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, just nine years old on this date in 1956, Elvis Presley had a recording hit the top of the charts for the first time.  It was "Heartbreak Hotel".  He had four previous records that didn't make it to the charts until after his one.  This one soared to the top of the Billboard Charts and stayed there for seven weeks.  In 1995, Rolling Stone named it one of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

When Elvis recorded the song, he had his band behind him, The Blue Moon Boys, and, for good measure, he had another couple of guys sit in.  Chet Atkins played the guitar and Floyd Cramer played the piano -  these two were not too shabby.

Here's what it sounded like.     https://youtu.be/e9BLw4W5KU8
