MAY 1

Mayday!  Mayday!  Mayday!

Now that I'm 21% fluent in French, I know that this distress call for those in flight or at sea had as it's origin the French word m'aidez - which translates to "help me."

May Day (May 1) is the traditional start of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.  It's a holiday in many places - see the kids dancing around the Maypole.  Spring has sprung.  It was a very important holiday for the Druids of the British Isles.

May 1 is also International Workers Day.  This date the Soviet Union traditionally paraded it's soldiers and war armaments through Red Square in Moscow for the world to see.

This day is huge in most of the Northern Hemisphere but not in America.  I think we don't appreciate how big this day is in Europe and western Asia.

Let's hope April showers bring May Flowers.  That's how the Pilgrims got here, you know?
