SUNDAY LITURGY

This weekend you will hear chapter 10 from John's gospel.  It is a recounting of Jesus teaching his followers with the example of the Good Shepherd.  Jesus used this shepherd metaphor often.  Lamb was the staple meat of that time and place.   Sheep eat ground vegetation so thoroughly that they need to be moved regularly.  They also need to be kept close to a source of water.  Without fences, a shepherd who stays with the sheep constantly,  is a necessity.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd.  We are the sheep.  He stays with us constantly.  He moves us as necessary.  He provides the food and drink we need.  If we stray from the flock, he will find us and bring us back.  Without Him, we may be killed by a predator.  Without Him, we will starve and die.
