SUNDAY LITURGY

Don't be confused.  Traditionally, the Ascension of our Lord comes forty days after his Resurrection. That puts it on a Thursday and, thus, there was Ascension Thursday.  Not to worry.  The U.S. bishops asked permission to celebrate this feast on the Sunday following.  So here we have it.

The Ascension is the event when the human Jesus left Earth.  It is an exchanging of gifts according to Matthew.  The Lord met with His selected eleven on a mountain and here is what He said to them.  "All power on heaven and earth has been given to me."  This was the gift He received from the Father.  Jesus, in turn, gives a gift to His apostles and a charge.  "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And, behold, I am with you until the end of time." Jesus gave them Himself.

That's what it's all about.
