RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

10/02/2017

OCTOBER 2

On this date in 1950, when I was five years old, Charles M. Schulz published the first installment of the cartoon "Peanuts".  Mr Schulz wrote and illustrated the issue.  It ran six days a week continuously until January 3, 2000 - almost 50 years.  It ran on Sundays from January 6, 1952 until February 13, 2000.  Reprints of his cartoons are still running in many publications across the country.

Charley Brown and his friends started 67 years ago today.   It spawned movies, songs, TV specials and a plethora of quotations.  Here are a few:

"Life is like a ten speed bike . . . some of us have gears we never use."   Linus
"Happiness is a warm puppy."   Lucy
"There's no sense in doing a lot of barking if you don't really have anything to say."   Snoopy
"It's just human nature . . . we all need someone to kiss us goodbye."   Marcie
"If no one answers the phone, dial louder."   Lucy
"I've developed a new philosophy.  I only dread one day at a time."   Charley
"When no one loves you, you have to pretend everyone loves you."   Sally Brown

"You're a good man, Charley Brown."
