INTERFAITH WISDOM

Today begins the Jewish feast of Hanukkah.  It is an eight-day celebration commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem in the second century BC.  It has become known as the Festival of Lights.  The outward sign of the celebration is the use of the menorah, a candelabra of nine; one candle always lit and used to light the others; one on each day.

During the celebration, different rituals are performed each day.  To their usual daily prayers, the following are added:

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah lights."

"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Who performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time."

How blessed is it to remember what God has done for you and to thank Him for it.
