WEEKEND LITURGY

To end the calendar year, the Catholic Church honors the Holy Family . . .  and all families.
Joseph, Mary and Jesus.  Father, mother, child.  The social structure of human nature.

Luke's gospel for this date describes the Holy Family's visit to the Temple for the Purification rite.  According to Jewish law, the purification of the mother is completed 40 days after childbirth.  At the same time, the child is Presented to and becomes part of the congregation.  The family makes offerings and prayers are said.  The whole ritual is written in the Torah.

According to Luke, the Holy Family met two people at the temple this day;  each of whom predicted or foresaw what was to come for Jesus.  The day was full of mixed feelings.

Our lives are full of mixed feelings.  We don't always know 'what is good for you' as my mother used to admonish.  Its a long process for each of us to figure out what is best . . . to make the best choices.  Like most things in life, it is done more easily when you have help.  Seek it.
