This weekend we celebrate the Trinity - three distinct beings; Father, Son and Spirit, yet one God. Our human minds cannot fathom this very well. The readings at mass this weekend reflect the three and help us to understand.
In the first reading - from the Old Testament, we we hear about God as Father; the one who gave to Moses rules for the chosen people to follow. Moses promised the people that if they followed God's commandments, they would prosper and flourish.
In the second reading, a portion of Paul's letter to the Romans, we are reminded that we have been given the Holy Spirit and it is through Him that we have the strength and wisdom to proceed in this world as Children of God. As His children, we can share in His inheritance.
In the Gospel reading, Matthew recounts the last visit between Jesus, the Son, and his Apostles. Jesus entrusts them with carrying on His work and promises that He will be with them until the end of time.
Do what you do, in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
