WEEKEND CATHOLIC LITURGY

This past Friday we celebrated the feast of Saint Bartholomew.  This is the Hebrew name for Nathaniel.  In Hebrew it means "God has given."  Jesus famously invited Nathaniel and his brother Philip to "Come follow me."  . . . and they did.

In today's gospel, Jesus is told by a group of his followers that His stories were too hard to believe and His demands too difficult.  This is the continuation from last Sunday's reading where Jesus was explaining how He was the "Bread of Life" and that "unless you eat of this bread and drink this blood, you cannot be saved."  Well, Jesus said in essence that they were thinking too much about the physical world and not about the spiritual.  Many left him.

Jesus then asked his Apostles what they were going to do.  Peter, of course, spoke up for the rest and said, "Who else could we follow?  We know who you are - you are the Holy One of God.  You have the words of eternal life."

Who else would you follow?   You, too, can ask someone to come follow you - don't be afraid.
