ICYMI, last Wednesday, marijuana growing, selling, storing and using as a recreational drug became legal in all of Canada. It had been legally prescribed there by doctors for medicinal purposes for years.
The Canadian government will strictly control and tax the sale of all cannabis products. Each of the various provinces may have slightly different rules governing the process. In general, one must be 18 or 19 years old to purchase and use it; anyone can grow small amounts. Strict laws relative to it's use before driving a motor vehicle and handling a fire arm have been imposed. Note that it is against the law to enter or leave Canada with cannabis in your possession.
Canada joins Uruguay as the only countries with this kind of permissiveness. The Netherlands appears to be the next to go this route.
The part of all this that strikes me is this: Opioid overdose is killing more young Americans than anything, right now. If not killing, it is ruining lives in epidemic proportions. We trust our doctors to prescribe opioids whenever they see fit. Why don't we allow our doctors to prescribe cannabis when they think it might be appropriate.
Last summer the FDA finally approved one cannabis-based drug for use with some patients. Maybe this will be the beginning of logic to enter our system.
