EAST OF CINCINNATI - WEST BY-GAWD

Is everyone hip to what's going on in neighboring West Virginia's state government?  Here's my "Cliff Notes" version of recent amazing events.

Since 2001, all governors of the state of West Virginia have been Democrats.  The State has a Supreme Court of Appeals made up of five members elected on a non-partisan slate (no party affiliation).  Any vacancies in the court are filled by the governor until the next election cycle.

The latest Governor is Jim Justice (a fitting name).  Governor Justice was elected in 2016 as a Democrat.  In August, 2017, at a Trump rally, Justice announced that he was switching party affiliations - he became a Republican.

Back to the Supremes.  Early this year the Republican controlled State Congress impeached all Supreme Court members on multiple charges.  The charges centered around unauthorized spending but included charges of profiteering, misuse of government property, incompetency, neglect of duty, and potential criminal behavior.  Thus far, three of the five have been convicted or resigned prior to trial.

What a mess!  Who can you trust?  What's next?  Stay tuned.
