THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass we will celebrate the Feast of Christ the King - Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe.  It is the last Sunday of the liturgical year - Advent begins next weekend.

From the Old Testament, the Book of Daniel chapter 7, comes his apocryphal account of end times.  From the New Testament, John Book of Revelation chapter 1, comes his apocryphal account of end times.

From John's gospel, chapter 18, comes his account of the dialogue between Pilate and Jesus prior to His sentencing.  Jesus said in response to the question if He were the king of the Jews, "My kingdom does not belong to this world."  And Pilate answered, "Then you are a king?"  Jesus answered, "You say I am a king.  For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.  Everyone who belongs to the truth, listens to my voice."

Pilate didn't quite follow Jesus when he said this.  He shrugged his shoulders and ordered an inscription be put on top of the cross on which he would be crucified.  In Roman Latin:  Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum  (their I is our J)  INRI  "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews"

He was more than the king of the Jews.  He is the king of all the world.  May we all learn to 'listen to His voice' in the coming year.
