RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

The Gospel reading at Catholic mass this weekend (Luke 17) teaches us as we teach our kids:  be thankful.  Say "Thank you!" when you receive a gift.  Recognize that what you have is a gift...everything you have is a gift, for that matter.  So, say "Thank you!" often.

The first reading comes from 2nd Kings and is a similar lesson but with a twist.  At mass you will hear of another leper being cleansed.  Like Jesus in today's gospel, the prophet Elisha cleanses a leper.  Like John the Baptist, Elisha does it with the sign of water - like baptism.  The untold rest of the story is very interesting. Go into your Bible and read all of chapter 5.  It is short, easy to understand and yours for the reading.

The second reading is from Paul's letter to his protege Timothy (ch 2).  It's lesson is carried in these three lines of instruction.  "If you have died with Him, you shall also live with Him.  If you persevere, you will also reign with Him.  If you are unfaithful, He will [still] remain faithful to you. [BUT] If you deny Him, He will deny you."

Have a blessed week!
