The readings you will hear at Catholic mass this weekend are full of hope. They are full of the idea that 'everyone' can be saved.
The first reading comes from the Book of Wisdom. (If you read only one book from the Old Testament, let it be Wisdom.) I'll paraphrase this excerpt. Even though the whole universe is as small as a seed or a drop of dew to Him, out of love God takes care of us. Even though we sin over and over again, God will forgive us over and over again. No matter how bad a person is, remember that they were made by the Lord and He has mercy on them. God made everything and He made nothing that is bad. He loves all people and gives them every chance to do the right thing.
From the Gospel of Luke, we hear of an instance where Jesus, as he traveled, chose to stay with a noted sinner - a tax collector. The City of Jericho was aghast. No righteous person would associate with the crooked tax collector. Jesus did. He came to save the wicked, not the righteous. Even today, He looks for the 'lost lambs'; the souls who have lost their way.
Have a Blessed Weekend!
