RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

12/28/2019

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

Here we stand; the weekend between Christmas and the New Year.  It's like a last chance for 2019.  This day is dedicated to the family.

The first reading is taken from Sirach - a great teacher whose words are timeless.   In chapter 3 of his book, we read about our responsibilities to our parents.  It's easy reading and affirming of what I would call traditional respect within a family.  Pull out your bible and check out all that he has to say.

The second reading is taken from Paul's letter to the Colossians, chapter 3.  In it, Paul begins with the qualities that should exist in any relationship between people and then extends that to the relationship between husband and wife and children.

The gospel reading this day tells the story about how Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus fled their homeland to elude King Herod who would attempt to kill this baby who threatened him.  They stayed in Egypt until Herod died.  Then they went to a town called Nazareth instead of anywhere in Judea because a new ruler there was also a threat to the child Jesus.  Jesus was known from that time as a Nazorean.

Have a blessed weekend and relish your family.
