Okay, Bengal fans - are there any left out there. OH and TWO is not the end of the world. This Sunday, the Bengals play the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly. The Eagles are also 0-2.
Last Thursday, the Bengals put up 30 points against the Browns but could never really find a way to stop Cleveland's running attack. For the second week in a row, we were without all-pro defensive lineman Geno Adkins and new d-lineman Mike Daniels. This contributed to the problem. (It looks like neither may play again Sunday) On the offensive side, QB Joe Burrow set a Bengal's rookie record by throwing the ball 61 times. That should not happen - but it did. The offensive unit could not find a way to get our running game going. Cincinnati will be without starting tight end C.J. Uzomah injured against Cleveland and out for the season. So much for last week.
The Eagles have lost to the Washington Team and the L.A. Rams. The big bugaboo for the Eagles has been turnovers. They gave the ball away three times in each of their first two games. Combined, they have been outscored 64-36, so their defense is giving up a lot of points. The Eagles hope to get all-pro receiver Alshon Jeffery back off the injured list this week but it looks doubtful. It would be a big boost to their offense.
Players to watch this week: Bengals kick-off returner Brandon Wilson - very exciting if he gets a chance. Eagles - defensive lineman Fletcher Cox five-time pro-bowler; our O-line needs to control him or else . . . more bumps for Joe Burrow.
Bengals' head coach Zac Taylor will be going up against his younger brother, Press, who is the Eagles' quarterback coach and passing game coordinator - the same position Zac held with the Rams before the Bengals got him.
The betting lines in Las Vegas look like this: The Eagles have been bet down from a 5-1/2 point favorite to 4-1/2 points The total score of the game is set at 46-1/2 points. I think these two will score more than that - neither defense is doing very well thus far into the season.
