RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear an interesting first reading from the prophet Isaiah that predicts that the chosen people, the Israelites or Jews, will fail to produce what was expected of them.  Many will reject Jesus.  Isaiah compares them to a vineyard.  When it didn't produce as it should, it's owner laid it to waste.

In the gospel story related by Matthew, Jesus tells the Jewish leaders a similar story in which he combines the vineyard story and the stone foundation story.  Remember that Jesus was the cornerstone of the foundation for His church.  These rabbis were familiar with these stories.  They never thought that they would be the ones that the Lord would condemn.  Even when hearing Jesus, they refused to believe it was them.  After all, they were the chosen people.

How about you?  Are you one of the chosen?  Is your place in God's kingdom secure.  Do you think you've got it made?

If so, let's hope you are right.  You see, not only must you walk his narrow path but you must produce fruit for him.  You need to do more than get yourself on the right track, you need to do what you can to bring others.  It is our calling.

Have a blessed weekend.  I love you.
