Just some random thoughts!
It's difficult to avoid getting a little depressed, at times, with what we see happening in our country. It's in the news every day. I try to avoid the news but find that difficult itself.
I just want to boil down my big concern into a few words.
It's the lack of respect for authority.
That's it. It drives me crazy. Parents, teachers, coaches, the aged, police officers, our courts, politicians, . . . you could go on and on. There's no limit.
I don't know how we got here. I don't know what to do about it. I just hate it.
All of this has something to do with consequences.
What can parents or teachers or coaches do to their charges. Nothing can be done. If they do something, everyone's pity is for the 'oppressed'.
Parents don't respect teachers. Parents don't respect coaches. Parents don't respect umpires, referees or other officials. Why should children respect them or their parents?
Our courts lack respect. So many slide by with little or no consequences to their offense.
Politicians lack respect. We really do get the government we deserve.
I think it goes hand-in-hand with the demise of religion in the country. Ignore or disrespect God and what are the consequences?
