In 1949, we had two TV stations in Cincinnati. One was WLW-T on vhf channel 4 and the other was WKRC-TV on channel 11. That's it.
WLW was long a radio station before they expanded into television. In it's early days, it was owned by Powel Crosley Jr's Crosley Broadcasting Corporation. The call letters were derived from World's Largest Wireless - which at one time it was.. It is one of the few stations grandfathered in with only three letters.
WKRC was the second station in Cincinnati but the first to receive an FCC license. The original owner was the Kodel Radio Company (thus KRC)...all channels began with "W". The Kodel name was formed from it's owner's names, Clarence Ogden and his wife Della.
