We have progressed with my pets up to the time I'm married with children. Again, I really remember very little and most of it is bad.
We were in our house in West Chester but the children were quite young - this may have been before our son was born. Anyway, we (my wife and I) succumbed to the pressure of a pet. We went for a hamster. They were all the rage at the time. Of course, everyone HAD to have one. I'm sure our girls gave it a name but I can't recall it.
I bought a nice house for the vermin. It included tubes he could walk through to get to other parts of his castle if he felt like it. All these parts were clear plastic and snapped together.
Well, the rascal's sole aim in life was to escape from the house we provided him. He did that by chewing on the plastic or somehow unsnapping the pieces. The girls could have left him roam the house for all I know. We had him a short time and then, all of a sudden, he was gone never to be seen again. We always imagined that he escaped into the heating and air conditioning ducts. Even years later, when there was a noise in the house we didn't recognize, we suspected the rodent was still living it up in our ducts - eating, I don't know what.
That was the end of rodents.
