ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL

The UC Bearcat football team squeaked by the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy last Saturday and face Tulane University Green Wave this Saturday at noon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  UC has been installed in this game as a three touchdown-plus favorite with a very high point total of 63.  I think I'd bet the over.  The 'Cats are on an inexorable march through college football mediocrity.  Don't pay attention to the current ratings by coaches and writers.  Those that matter will have their first poll out on November 2.  

The Bengals shocked the pro football world last Sunday by calmly thrashing the Baltimore Ravens.  Try not to get too gaga.  The Ravens are a team devastated by injury.  It got out of hand in the last quarter and the final score exceeded the real difference.  I must say, it was very satisfying and impressive.

This weekend they play the NY Jets.  Talk about devastated with injuries.  Talk about lack of talent.  The Jets have got it all.  They were clubbed 54-13 by the Patriots last Sunday and during the game, the Jets lost their quarterback, Zach Wilson.  They will be totally outmanned in a tilt with Cincinnati BUT teams that get blown out one weekend usually play extremely well the following.  Don't be too surprised ...  It can be dangerous to pick a fight with a wounded dog.

The Bengals are 9-1/2 point favorites while the game is slated to have a 43-1/2 point total.  The home-boys will be the darlings of the press this week after their performance last Sunday and especially since they are playing a New York team.  Too much press can take one's eyes off of the prize.  Luckily, the Jets are so bad that a poor performance by Cincy might still lead to a win.  

The Ohio high school playoffs start this weekend.  Ohio is going with sixteen teams in each division.  I don't get it.  It used to be difficult to get into the playoffs.  In division 1, large schools, 9 of the 16 teams in the tourney do not have winning records.  Unbelievable!  Moeller is the #1 seed and plays Oak Hills which is 0-10.  Something is wrong here.  This is the same as everybody-gets-a-trophy ball.  Sickening.  

I'll keep an eye on this for you.  Something must be wrong.  No need to mention all teams involved at this point.
