The UC Bearcats took care of South Florida last weekend, albeit, not very convincingly. They managed to hang onto their number five position in the playoff poll. This weekend they play SMU, Southern Methodist University, on Saturday at 3:30 in the Nip. The Cats are an 11-1/2 point favorite with the betting crowd. Actually, they haven't beat the spread in a month.
The Bengals are back in action this weekend. They play the Raiders in Las Vegas at 4:05 Eastern. The bookies have this one as basically an even and high scoring game. Both teams are coming off of two losses in a row. Be prepared to see the Raiders' Josh Jacobs run the ball extensively unless our defense has gotten it together over the bye week. Quarterback Derek Carr is decent but is lacking in dependable receivers. On the defensive side of the ball, watch out for middle linebacker Denzel Perryman making tackles all over the field. I have no idea how the Bengals will show up - let's hope they have righted their ship.

Xavier University is 2 - 0 early in this men's basketball season. They really haven't gotten the kinks out yet. Tonight, at the Cintas Center, they play Ohio State who is 3 - 0 against weak competition and rated 19th in the country. This should be a good test for each. On Sunday, XU faces Norfolk State at home again; next Wednesday they entertain Iowa State.
University of Cincinnati men's basketball is off to a 3 - 0 start. They host Presbyterian tonight and travel to #9 Illinois next Monday. That should be real tough.
