THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass the watchword is 'preparation'.  In Luke's Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples to be prepared for the end; the end times.  These times will be astonishing.  So astonishing that some will die of fright at what they see.  Jesus will return.  His warning is to be prepared; live properly so that you can withstand the tribulation and stand before God.

The above recap sounds like an 'end times' warning.  There are two ways to look at that.  Yes, some day the world as we know it will end.  But, I think that can mean the whole world or our personal world.  Each of us will die - that will be our personal 'end time'.  We must be prepared for it.  We don't know when our end will come so we must be prepared always.  Always. Prepare yourself - you may not have time later on.

This is the first Sunday of Advent.  There is no better time to prepare and no better event to prepare for - than a birth.  We are all well aware of how we must prepare for a birth in our family.  In four weeks, we will celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Prepare for it.
