It's the second Sunday of Advent this weekend. The readings remind us that John, Jesus' cousin, spent his life attempting to prepare others for Jesus coming. The writings of the prophet Isaiah, repeated in the Book of Baruch read today, foretold of John's coming. It is the overall message of the season. Prepare for the coming of Jesus.
You can look at this as preparation for Christmas or, more deeply, as your preparation for meeting Jesus in the afterlife. You will meet him. May the meeting be pleasant.
