THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This week we have Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion.  The Old and New Testament readings are very familiar to me - I read them at mass many times.  They spoke to me.

First Isaiah writes:  "The Lord has given me a well-trained tongue that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them."  I am blessed with a good command of the language.  I hope I use it as it should be used.  Most of you are blessed that way as well.  Make use of your blessings.

Then we hear Paul's words to the Philippians which I will paraphrase:  Christ Jesus did not find the need to declare himself a god.  He came to earth as a human, a slave and allowed himself to be tortured and killed.  Because of this God greatly exalted Him and bestowed upon Him a name above all others; that every knee shall bend at the sound of it.  "Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father."

The Gospel reading this year is from Luke - it is his description of the complete passion and death of Jesus;  from the Passover meal with His apostles which we will celebrate on Thursday all the way to his burial after the crucifixion which will be remembered next Friday.   Listen to or read the story again.  It is why we do this.

Have a joyous Sunday.  You are blessed.  I love you.
