RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THIS N THAT

I went birding last Saturday - my very first time with a guide.  I saw for the first time a Yellow-rumped Warbler, a Scarlet Tanager, an Eastern Kingbird, a Brown-headed Cowbird and an Eastern Towhee to name a few.  Are you impressed?  What I learned - it's easier, if you know their individual calls.

Deep thought.  "There is no motionless."  Everything is moving in relation to something.  Think you're not moving?  All those on Earth are constantly moving around in rotation and orbiting the Sun...and, of course, the Sun and our whole galaxy is also moving.

The Sea of Galilee (also known as the Sea of Tiberias) is the lowest elevation fresh water body of water on Earth.  It is the second lowest of any water behind the Dead Sea which is, of course, dead - not fresh.

The last Roman Gladiator 'game' took place in the year 404; over 1600 years ago.  I think the UFC, Ultimate Fighting Championship, has put us a step closer to having reprised those 'games'.

In honor of Spring, I'd like to pay homage to the taraxacum.  A beautiful plant decorating the landscape of many a suburban home.  You can eat it.  You can make wine out of it.  It contains vitamins A, C and K - and contains the minerals calcium, potassium, iron and manganese.  It provides food for birds and various herbivores. At maturity, it produces a gorgeous blowball containing dozens of seeds. We call it the ... dandelion.
