INCONVENIENT TRUTHS
Just a note about mass media; electronic, print, and broadcast. You don't have to lie to deceive or otherwise effect those who receive your messages. You only have to ignore those truths which are not congruous with, are inconveniently critical of or are opposed to your mindset or objectives.
The press (media) has long been known as the fourth estate. They love that title.
The titles date to the 18th century at the time of the French Revolution. The first estate was the clergy, the second was the nobility and the third was the common people. These three included all the people and ranked their influence according to King Louis XVI.
Soon it was realized that the media had such influence that it became the fourth estate. In our society, how would you rank the estates in terms of influence? The nobility, in our case, would include the elected officials.
