RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SAY WHAT?

Class, as a review, a day is the time it takes for the Earth to rotate once on it's axis - 24 hours in Earth time.  A year is the time it takes Earth to orbit the Sun - about 365 days.  Everyone clear on that?

Okay.  In addition, you know that the planets are the large significant chunks of rock that orbit the Sun.  Earth is third in line (Third rock from the Sun).  The second, nearer the Sun than we are, is Venus.  Named for the Goddess of Love.

Okay, here comes the "Huh?" part of the class.  If you lived on Venus, you would find that a day is longer than a year.  One more time:  a day is longer than a year.  That's because the planet rotates so slowly.  Venus has days so long they go from one year to the next.  Just think kids; you could tell your momma that you were going to be home tomorrow and not show up until the next year.  Sure the days are long but so are the nights.  You could be twenty years-old and only 12 days old.

Now, who wants to go to Venus?  Keep in mind that one Venus day lasts about eight Earth months and one Venus year last about seven Earth months.

Sorry, I confused you.  I confused myself, too.
