RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

WISDOM

Yesterday, I offered the quotation of Jack London which begins "I would rather be ashes than dust!"

Today, I bring you the same sentiment wrapped in the context of softball which I played into my seventies.  I contemplated this and expressed it many times.

"If you are coaching, remember that I don't want to die standing on third base when I could have scored and been the winning run.  Send me home and I'll slide in a cloud of dust - taking my chances."

This reminds me of the famous sports bromide:   "Better to have played and lost than to never have played the game."

I have always loved sports.
