 When the ocean liner, Titanic, sank in the cold waters of the North Atlantic in 1912, the band played on until the end.  Like the captain, I suppose, they considered themselves just employees of the ship and didn't leave their post in the grand ballroom.  Many survivors mentioned that they could hear the band from their lifeboats.  The last song the band was playing as the ship sank into the depths of the sea:  "Nearer my God to Thee."  How appropriate!
