RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SIX YEARS AGO

Six years ago I wrote this.  Back then, I was writing each Saturday about the readings to be used in church that weekend.  Our church is on a three-years cycle of readings.  I stumbled across this while looking for other material and found it fitting for today.  Today is The Lord's Day!

WEEKEND CATHOLIC LITURGY

Monday is Labor Day in the USA.  Work!  It is a blessing.  Remember that.  It is work to be productive in retirement.

Our readings encourage us to be a doer

From the Old Testament, we hear Moses advise his followers to follow the laws the Lord gave them.  No laws from another source could be more important including laws of a nation.

From the New Testament, James advised his followers to be "doers of the 'Word' and not just hearers."  Being a doer requires you to do your part to help those in need - those without work/income; all those most in need.

From the Gospel of Mark, he records Jesus putting these two thoughts together.  He told the Pharisees that their excessive concern with the laws and traditions is just external - what others can see.  He told them that it was more important what was in their hearts; what came from their hearts.  Each of us can produce good and evil for the world  -  and this comes from within us.   Be a productive person - for the good of all.

Look inside yourself and judge not what others observe of you but what is coming out of you.
God Bless You
