CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Bengals got news that Odell Thurman has been reinstated by the league and can be placed back on the active roster. Marvin says that it looks like David Pollack will not attempt a comeback and will officially retire. The Redskins made a great offer to the Bengals for Ocho Stinko but they turned it down. All the bridges have been burnt, they have to do something with him.

The Reds fired general manager Wayne Krivsky on Wednesday. He was evidently on a short leash. Owner Bob Castellini is very impatient to win. Walt Jocketty has taken over.

XU extended Sean Miller's contract for ten years. He's now making close to $1 million per year.

The Bengals chose Keith Rivers, a linebacker from USC in the first round of the draft. Rivers has a personal blog: http://www.yardbarker.com/ Read his entries on Saturday. In the second round they chose Jerome Simpson, a wide receiver from Coastal Carolina. If Simpson works out, it will prove the Bengals are smarter than the rest of the world in judging talent.

The UC football team had their spring game on Saturday night before over 10,000 fans. That's a lot of fans for that program. Coach Kelly seemed pleased.

On Sunday, the Bengals chose two more wide receivers and a tight end, a safety, an offensive tackle and three defensive linemen. It seems pretty obvious that they don't expect to have Ocho Loco back.

The Reds won three and lost four this week. Newcomer Edinson Volquez, who we got for Josh Hamilton, won two of the three. He is now 4-0. Cincinnati is at 11 and 15 on the year and fighting Pittsburgh for last place in the division.
