RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

ACM

I watched some of the ACM awards program Sunday night.  You may know that 'Country' is not my favorite genre of music.

When I was growing up, you didn't talk about 'country' music without saying 'western'.  All the singers sounded like they had their thumb and forefinger pinching off air from their nostrils.

Well, this is a new day.  They call this the Academy of Country Music Awards Program.  La-di-da, its an 'academy'.   Higher education - learned people and all. I'm so impressed.  All the women were wearing black dresses or black yoga pants and boots.  Most of the men were wearing cowboy hats (except one wore a baseball cap with his initials on it).

They loaded the just-off-stage area full of young women dressed in formal attire - no men - very strange. All of them knew every word to every song that was sung.  Off to one side of the hall, they crammed in men and women in military attire standing at attention.  This was for a single photo-op.  They jetted in from South Carolina golf's Masters Champion, Jordan Spieth, so that he could read two words - 'Miranda Lambert'.  He did it quite well.

All in all, it was a pretty well run program.  Smartly, they've greatly expanded what music they call 'country' and have taken most of the 'western' out.  Most of all, I was so glad I did not see one singer grab his crotch during the whole show.  I might get to like 'country'.
