This week I'll write the shortest of prayers. It is a famous line you will find in the Old Testament of the Jewish and Christian Bible; the First Book of Samuel. Samuel was dedicated to God by his mother at birth. He became a great prophet and leader of the Jewish people 1000 years before Christ was born. He came to be the connection between God and the Jews just as Moses had been 500 years earlier, when the Jews left captivity in Egypt and made their way to the "promised land." At God's urging, Samuel transitioned the Israelites from a tribal people ruled by judges to a dynastic people ruled by kings.
When Samuel was very young, he received in a dream a call from the Lord. He responded as we should. This short phrase acknowledges the mastery of God and puts one in the proper attitude to follow Him. Say it to your self, today. Say it often. It is simple.
"Speak, Lord, your servant is listening."
That's all. Say it again.
God bless you.
