CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The last week of the year for the Reds began with a make-up game on Monday against the Florida Marlins. The 'fish' still had hopes of making the playoffs and were on a hot streak. The Reds beat them on a late inning comeback. On to Houston, the Reds went, for three against the Astros who still had hopes of making the playoffs. The Reds won the first in a late inning comeback but fizzled out in the last two. The last weekend of the season was spent in St. Louis. The Cards swept the Reds soundly. That put the Reds at 74-88 for the year. Next year will begin with high hopes.

On Saturday afternoon, the UC Bearcats went to Akron to play the Zips and were able to eek out a 17-15 win on a last minute 40 yard field goal. In the fourth quarter, they lost quarterback Tony Pike with a broken arm. That's two quarterbacks down with broken bones. They have a short week to coach up a third and get him ready for Marshall University on Friday night.

The Bengals met the Browns at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday afternoon without the services of Carson Palmer. Through most of the game, the two 0-3 teams showed us why they were winless. As usual, all NFL games come down to who makes plays...Cleveland made more and Cincinnati lost 20-12. If we were anywhere else but Cincinnati, heads would roll.

In high school football, Roger Bacon beat Fenwick 41-21; Hamilton topped Lakota East 24-3; Indian Hill blasted Mariemont 34-14; Wilmington was trampled by Little Miami 64-27; Chaminade edged McNicholas 14-13.
