The trouble with our exit from Afghanistan prompted me to reprint the entry below. The population of Kabul, Afghanistan is about 4.4 million. That's larger than any U.S. city except The Big Apple.

FACTS
Could you name the largest cities in the world by population? Most but not all, I would guess. It's difficult to be exact because some cities don't have a good way of counting the residents. It is also difficult because you can't tell where some cities end and another begins. Just in case you were wondering, here are what most people consider the most populated. The order varies by how you are counting but this is pretty close. The list starts with the most populated.
Tokyo, Japan
Delhi, India
Shanghai, China
Mumbai, India
Beijing, China
Dhaka, Bangladesh
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Karachi, Pakistan
Osaka, Japan
Cairo, Egypt
Lagos, Nigeria
Mexico City, Mexico
New York City, USA
It was the mention of the size of Karachi, Pakistan in a movie I was watching that sparked my interest. I never heard of the place. It sits on the Sea of Arabia - parts of it look like a resort; parts like you would expect with overpopulation.
Notice where these cities are. In fifty years, the world will certainly be a different place.
