FACIAL HAIR

I think facial hair is making a comeback.  If you can imagine, the scissors wasn't in common use until the 18th century - about the time our country was founded.  That's a lot of years with no way to cut a beard but with a knife.  The barber with his straight blade was the only way to get a close shave.

Take a look at the official pictures of all the Presidents of the United States.  The first ones are all pictured clean shaven.   Except for the lambchop sideburns of John Quincy Adams and Martin Van Buren, they all went to the barber before the pic was taken; right up until Abe Lincoln sat for a presidential picture.  From then on, most had facial hair up until the picture of  Woodrow Wilson was taken in the early 20th century.  Since then, not a whisker!

I may be looking pretty far ahead, but I forecast presidential facial hair makes a comeback.  If you look around, quite a few young men are letting the stubble grow.  It's becoming more a sign of manliness than anything.  Santa has always had a full beard.  I've been wearing a little ever since I had the thought it made me look younger at the turn of this century.  I'm beginning to wonder if that is still the case.  Any way, don't be surprised if we have a President with facial hair in the not-too-distant future.  It very well could be a guy from Cincinnati.
