CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds played three games in Milwaukee to start the week. The Brewers are leading in the wild card race. The Reds took two and should have won the third, over CC Sabathia no less, but the relievers failed us. All three games were one-run low scoring games. Brandon Phillips went out for the season with a broken thumb. Now we have nothing but youngsters in the line-up and its difficult to score any runs. The weekend's series was played in Arizona against the Diamondbacks and Adam Dunn. The D-Backs are fighting for the lead in the West. The Reds played three more one-run games (that makes 7 in a row) and won two of them. That makes them 4 of 6 against good teams. Amazing.

The Bengals played the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at PBS. The Titans were without QB Vince Young who, after being booed last week, decided he didn't want to play football any more and would rather commit suicide. If he played for the Bengals, he would have done that a long time ago. The Bungles allowed another new quarterback to make them look easy. Cincinnati got blown away 24-7. My cable went out 10 minutes into this game and my power was out before half time. The timing was good. Watching or listening to this game would have made me sicker.

In high school football, Dayton Carroll edged Fenwick 16-13; Edgewood humiliated Wilmington 65-17; Finneytown beat Mariemont 19-15; Hamilton topped Sycamore 21-14; McNicholas lost to Badin 35-21.

The UC Bearcats had the week off. They needed it to heal their wounds from their foray into Oklahoma and to prepare their new quarterback. Tony Pike of Reading High School is replacing the injured Dustin Grutza.
