RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SPORTS

Monday, football fans were treated to one of the great college football games of all time.  Clemson University defeated Alabama on a risky last second play for the National Championship.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Great irony of the week.  Bengals all-pro corner back, Adam Jones, was arrested for various charges related to a disturbance at a local night club.  The city is growing weary of the 38 year-old's
off-field antics.  Here's the irony:  last Sunday, one year after Jones melted down against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a playoff game here because one of their coaches, Joey Porter, illegally entered the field of play and incited him, the aforementioned Mr. Porter was arrested in Pittsburgh with charges related to an assault at a Pittsburgh night club.  Both men are out on bail.

The Xavier Musketeers have re-instated guard Myles Davis from suspension for an altercation involving a lady friend after which she obtained a protective order against him.  XU also signed Brady Ernst, a 6'9" power forward from a junior college.  He started his career at Iowa State University but left after his freshman year.  This bolsters an already huge and talented recruiting class for next year.

New UC head football coach, Luke Fickell, is awaiting approval of his contract by the Board of Regents.  His salary can't be announced before that.  I'm sure it'll be enough to convince his six children to move to Cincinnati.

XU had their biggest test of the season two days ago and fell on their faces.  Villanova University was #1 in the country until Butler beat them last week.  'Nova now sits at #3 in the AP poll and the Muskies are #15. Rankings are silly - they're just for casual fans.  In Philadelphia, the Musketeers lost by 25.  XU will have another chance with them in Cincinnati next month.
