RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

Today we will discuss elevations.  Cincinnati, the seat of Hamilton County, has forever been called the City of Seven Hills.  That's quite a romantic name but not one with much accuracy that I can discern.  Surely, the city has it's ups and downs. But, seven?

Here are a list of neighborhoods in the city which have names associated with hills of one kind or another:  Mount Auburn; Mount Washington; Mount Adams; Mount Lookout; Mount Airy; (that's five "mountains") Walnut Hills; Price Hill; Western Hills; Bond Hill; College Hill; (that's five "hills")
not to mention there is Pleasant Ridge; Kennedy Heights.  I have no idea which are the 'seven hills'.  Suffice it to say, when it snows, we have plenty of places to sled.

That's the high points.  It may be interesting to know that the lowest elevation in the whole state of Ohio is at the far south and western point in Hamilton county - where the Ohio river moves between Indiana and Kentucky.  Of course, there are more 'mountains' in the Hamilton County - like Mount Healthy and . . .

. . . the elevation variance in Hamilton county is about 600 ft - from the Ohio River pool (lowest) to the top of Rumpke's Landfill (highest).
