RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

Spring undergraduate commencement at the University of Cincinnati took place yesterday.  I couldn't be happier.  Another of my grandsons, Jack, took his turn to walk onto a makeshift stage and receive his sheepskin (or reasonable facsimile).  It is a great achievement - one I never accomplished.  Way to go, Jack!

Also at the commencement ceremony was a man named Connor Barwin.  Coming from Detroit Jesuit, he played football for UC in the 2005 thru 2008 seasons and was then drafted into the NFL by the Houston Texans.  He had a stellar all-pro career playing with the Texans, Eagles and last year, the LA Rams.

In his freshman year at UC, he was taken onto the basketball team by interim head coach Andy Kennedy.  Bob Huggins' firing and numerous player injuries had decimated the program.  Barwin went on to help Mick Cronin his first two years at the helm of the basketball program.

One week ago in Philadelphia, Barwin and fellow UC grad Jason Kelce unveiled a renovated children's park in South Philadelphia.  Barwin missed out on the Eagles Super Bowl season but kept his promise to the people of Philly.

It's never the wrong time to do the right thing and it's never too early or late to get your diploma.
